Marine Jet Power Commissions First 500 X-Series Waterjets on Korea’s Advanced Fishery Patrol Vessel, “Gangwon 201”

UPPSALA, SWEDEN (March 06, 2025) – Marine Jet Power (MJP), a global leader in waterjet propulsion, has achieved a significant milestone with the successful commissioning of its first 500 X-Series waterjets aboard the “Gangwon 201,” a cutting-edge 26.65-meter fisheries patrol vessel.

Commissioned for Gangwon Province in the northeast of South Korea, the “Gangwon 201” represents a new era of fishery patrol boats. This vessel is powered by dual MJP 500X waterjets seamlessly integrated with MTU engines, offering precise maneuvering in harbors. This innovative combination ensures exceptional operational flexibility.

The “Gangwon 201” achieved a sea trial speed of 19.5 knots, demonstrating the exceptional efficiency and performance of the MJP X-Series.

Launched in 2018, the MJP X-Series waterjet epitomizes the pinnacle of technological advancement within MJP’s portfolio. Its fully integrated design allows for a seamless, single-piece installation, significantly simplifying the process for shipbuilders while enhancing operational efficiency for end-users. In 2021, MJP expanded the X-Series range to include the 400, 450, and now, the powerful 500 sizes.

The expanded X-Series range is specifically designed for vessels ranging from 26 to 40 meters (85 to 131 feet) in length, with power capabilities reaching up to 2070 kW (2775 bhp). The X-Series is ideally suited for high-speed applications, making it the preferred propulsion system for fast patrol craft, military vessels, commercial work boats, and search and rescue vessels.
