Gangwon 201 was developed to support fisheries protection and enforcement operations. The vessel needed to combine rapid response capability with precise low-speed control to effectively monitor and respond to illegal fishing activity.
Operational requirements included maneuverability in confined and shallow areas, reliable performance under pressure and the ability to operate efficiently in both open coastal waters and harbor environments. The integration of hybrid-electric propulsion also addressed environmental considerations by enabling reduced emissions during patrol operations.
