WHERE HIGH-SPEED INTERCEPTION MEETS PRECISION MANEUVERABILITY
When the Guardia di Finanza required a next-generation Coastal Patrol Vessel capable of sustained high-speed interception and precision maneuvering, Marine Jet Power delivered. Equipped with four MJP 650 CSU mixed-flow waterjets, the 44-meter vessel is engineered for rapid response, operational reliability, and superior control in demanding maritime security operations.
The Guardia di Finanza operates in complex and high-pressure maritime environments, requiring vessels capable of rapid acceleration, sustained high speeds, and immediate tactical response.
For this 44-meter Coastal Patrol Vessel, operational demands included:
- High top speed for interception missions
- Superior maneuverability during close-quarters operations
- Rapid acceleration from standstill
- Reduced draft for near-shore patrol
- High system redundancy for mission-critical reliability
- Low vibration and enhanced onboard comfort
Traditional propeller systems can limit maneuverability, increase vulnerability, and reduce operational efficiency at high speeds. To meet modern maritime security challenges, a more advanced propulsion solution was required.

A TAILORED SOLUTION BUILT FOR THE VESSEL’S MISSION PROFILE
Marine Jet Power supplied four MJP 650 CSU mixed-flow waterjets, specifically selected and optimized for the vessel’s operational profile. The CSU series combines classic mixed-flow hydrodynamics with high-efficiency pump design, making it ideal for vessels between 26–200 meters operating at high speeds.
The solution included:
- Quad MJP 650 CSU waterjets for maximum thrust and redundancy
- Optimized intake design to ensure smooth, efficient water flow
- Integrated steering and reversing systems for precise control
- Close collaboration with Effebi shipyard during installation and commissioning
- Performance tuning aligned with the MTU propulsion package
Unlike conventional propellers, MJP waterjets draw water through a hull intake, accelerate it via a high-efficiency impeller, and discharge it through a precision-engineered nozzle. This pump-jet principle delivers powerful thrust, improved safety, and enhanced maneuverability — critical for government and military vessels.
STRONGER PERFORMANCE. GREATER CONTROL. HIGHER OPERATIONAL READINESS.
The result is a patrol vessel capable of reaching 45 knots while maintaining exceptional control and stability.
Key performance outcomes include:
- Rapid acceleration for interception missions
- Tight turning radius and precise low-speed maneuvering
- Reduced underwater appendages for improved survivability
- Increased redundancy with quad configuration
- Smooth ride characteristics and reduced vibration
- Optimized fuel efficiency at operational speeds

WHY MJP 650 CSU
For maritime security forces, propulsion is not just about speed — it is about control, safety, and mission assurance. The MJP 650 CSU system delivers all three.
