Switches From Silent Operations to Full Speed With Ease

The M17 Hybrid effortlessly achieves speeds exceeding 50 knots under diesel power, showcasing its exceptional performance capabilities. However, its can operate silently on electric drives when patrolling at night and entering harbors with noise pollution restrictions. This unique feature highlights MJP’s expertise in combining power with efficiency, achieved through the optimal pairing of their waterjets with the hybrid propulsion system.

Key Features

  • Silent Operation: Experience quiet patrols with no engine noise, allowing for discreet surveillance missions. The hybrid system enables the M17 to operate silently on electric power during low-speed maneuvers and harbor operations.
  • Eco-Friendly Propulsion: The hybrid system significantly reduces diesel emissions, contributing to cleaner oceans.
  • Smooth Ride: MJP waterjets provide a smoother ride, minimizing harsh vibrations, without loud cavitation while ensuring comfort for its passengers.
  • Battery Charging via MJP Waterjet: with Scania’s E-Machine you can select a waterjet to charge the batteries when under weigh.

Engineered for Performance Without Sacrificing Sustainability

The Marell M17 Hybrid boasts a sleek design and advanced engineering:

  • Durable Construction: Built with lightweight yet durable materials, this vessel offers longevity and superior performance.
  • Innovative Deck Layout: Features an open deck layout for additional cargo such as jetskis or a rigid inflatable boat.
  • Cutting-Edge Technology: Equipped with the latest navigation and communication systems for enhanced operational capabilities.

Superior Maneuverability

The Marell M17 Hybrid’s dual MJP waterjets ensure exceptional maneuverability and control, essential for patrol missions in challenging environments. Whether in a high-speed chase or cruising across shallow flats, the waterjets allow this boat to spin 360 degrees in a tight marina, without any forward/reverse movement.

Groundbreaking Hybrid Technology

Built by Marell Boats, this interceptor achieved speeds of 55 knots under diesel power, showcasing its exceptional performance capabilities. However, what truly sets it apart is the ability to operate silently on electric drives during low-speed maneuvers and harbor operations. This remarkable feat highlights MJP’s expertise in seamlessly combining power with efficiency, achieved through the optimal pairing of their waterjets with the hybrid propulsion system.

Balancing Tradition and Sustainable Maritime Operations

During SeaWork, Executive Director at Aries Technical Anand Saraiya said, “With the hybrid solution, it is a good combination of what we’re used to, and what we’re trying to get to.”

MJP’s Global Director of Sales Robert Magnusson said, “Marine Jet Power is honored to be at the forefront of this groundbreaking project. Our contribution to the M17 underscores MJP’s unwavering commitment to developing sustainable solutions for marine propulsion. We continuously push the boundaries of innovation to address the evolving needs of our diverse customer base. By providing access to the most advanced and environmentally friendly technology available, we empower them to operate efficiently and with minimal environmental impact.”

The Idea for the M17 Hybrid Electric Interceptor came from the Stockholm Marine Police

Marell designed the M17 after meeting with the French Police and finding out that their current boats spent 80% of their time on the water traveling less than 8 knots. So the team at Marell spent over 2 years of research and development integrating the right technology for this mission. Running on electric mode not only prolongs the life of its Scania V8 diesel engines, it also cuts down on its enormous fuel bill.

“You can go a full day patrolling, without burning fuel, noise, smell, nothing. It’s cool.”
~ Patrik Söderholm | Founder of Marell Boats

Its combination of high-speed, fuel efficiency, and eco-friendliness has gotten a lot of attention from Naval Architects across the globe. Are you ready to take your vessel to the next level?
