For over 30 years, AB Yachts has built high-performance vessels designed around waterjet propulsion. Known for blending speed with sharp, sporty styling, the Italian shipyard is consistently pushing boundaries. In 2016, AB Yachts delivered the first hull of the 100-foot AB 100 series, built to reach a top speed of 52 knots.

But that achievement wasn’t enough, not for AB Yachts, and not for one client in particular. Five years later, in 2021, AB Yachts introduced the AB 100 Superfast, a new semicustom yacht delivering even greater speed. Marine Jet Power played a key role in the project, supplying a dual MJP 500 DRB waterjet system with a central booster to power the fastest 30-meter yacht on the market.

Vessel information

With the AB 100 Superfast, AB Yachts pushed its performance philosophy to the extreme. The goal was to build a yacht where comfort, space, design flexibility, and exhilarating performance could coexist.

Compared to its predecessors, the AB 100 Superfast introduces triple 2,600 hp MTU engines paired with waterjets, replacing the earlier 1,900 hp setup. Kevlar and carbon-fiber construction reduce weight, contributing to agility and acceleration. These upgrades bring the cruising speed to 53 knots and the top speed to 60 knots, making it the fastest 30-meter yacht on the market.

Visually, the 100 Superfast features nearly floor-to-ceiling glass on the main deck and long, continuous glazing below. Tinted glass and lowered bulwarks create a clean, uninterrupted profile. Inside, the owner chose to remove the bulkhead between the helm and dining area, enhancing openness and visual flow across the main deck.

Innovative features extend to the aft and beach club areas. A full-beam settee lines the transom, while an automatic launch system allows tenders to slide directly into the water. The flybridge, foredeck, and stern all offer adaptable lounging spaces designed for both entertainment and privacy.

Below deck, the layout includes a full-beam master, VIP, and two twin cabins. Crew access remains separate and efficient, with direct stair access from the helm to the galley and laundry area.

Marine Jet Power 500 DRB

The AB 100 Superfast features a dual Marine Jet Power (MJP) 500 DRB waterjet setup paired with a central booster. The DRB, which is short for Double Reversing Bucket, delivers superior control, fast response, and reduced onboard noise.

Built for reliability, the 500 DRB uses duplex stainless steel for both the body and pump. Builders can choose steel, metal, or composite for the intake. The inboard hydraulic design and optimized pump architecture ensure high thrust and smooth, accurate reversing when needed.

Why the MJP 500 DRB?

The AB 100 Superfast is built to perform, but also to explore. With a shallow draft of just 4’3”, the yacht suits American clients who regularly cruise the Bahamas. The combination of MJP waterjets and a powerful engine package not only provides the maneuverability and responsiveness wanted but also allows for shallow water access and open-sea agility.

Paired with the triple 2,600 hp MTU engines, the dual 500 DRBs and central booster create an unmatched package of speed and control. Together, they turn the AB 100 Superfast into a precision machine that delivers a thrilling ride, without compromising comfort or capability.

Maiora 35 Exuma ‘’Lady Niña’’

Marine Jet Power 650 DRB waterjets + single booster

With the keel laid under the project name Exuma in early 2019, Maiora reached a milestone. The construction of the 35 Exuma showcased the yard’s capability to produce a series of high-end luxury yachts while adapting to detailed client requests. MJP played a key role in delivering the propulsion system that made this project possible.

Vessel Information

Lady Niña is the first unit in Maiora’s 35-meter Exuma series. This fast-planing motor yacht, built in fiberglass, reflects the Italian shipyard’s expertise. The owner named it after the Exuma Cays in the Bahamas, a favorite cruising destination. Because of this, shallow-water capability became a priority.

As part of Gruppo FIPA, Maiora used its extensive waterjet propulsion experience from its sister brand, AB Yachts. The yacht needed to combine speed with comfort. To achieve this, engineers equipped Lady Niña with two MJP steerable waterjets and a central booster jet. These work with three Caterpillar C32 Acert engines, each generating 1,925 horsepower. As a result, the yacht reaches a top speed of 35 knots with ease.

Beyond speed, Lady Niña offers extended range and access to shallow waters. The owner required seamless navigation to locations like Cat Island, the Abacos, Paradise Island, and the Exumas. With a fuel consumption of 160 liters per hour at cruising speed and a 22,000-liter fuel tank, the vessel achieves a 1,600-nautical-mile range at ten knots.

Maiora considers Lady Niña a special project. The shipyard customized every aspect of the vessel according to the owner’s preferences, including the layout featuring wengè, walnut, and oak wood, designed by the group’s Centro Stile.

Marine Jet Power 650 DRB

Marine Jet Power equipped Lady Niña with two 650 DRB steerable waterjets and a central booster. DRB stands for “Double Reversing Bucket.” This system provides superior maneuverability and precision control.

Built for durability, the 650 DRB withstands debris, sand, and submerged obstacles. Its inboard hydraulic design and high-performance pump technology enhance reversing speed and agility. Even in demanding conditions, the propulsion system ensures reliable operations.

Why The 650 DRB?

Maiora selected the 650 DRB with a central booster to meet the yacht’s specific needs. The owner prioritized shallow-water access, maneuverability, and an extended cruising range. When combined with the yacht’s shallow draft, this propulsion system exceeded expectations. Lady Niña now navigates the Cat Island beaches, the Abacos, Paradise Island, and the Exumas with ease.

AB YACHTS AB 110

Marine Jet Power 500 DRB Waterjets + Single Booster

With a sleek, sporty exterior, the AB 110 looks as fast as it performs. Launched in June 2024 in Viareggio, Italy, this model introduces a new era for AB Yachts. Designed by Archea Associati with naval architecture from Next Yacht Group, the AB 110 builds on previous technological advancements to push the shipyard’s tradition even further, ”the next level of its legacy” as AB Yachts describes it.

Vessel Information

The AB 110 stretches 34 meters, featuring sweeping lines and seamless transitions between interior and exterior spaces. Walkable surfaces, integrated staircases, and built-in furnishings create a fluid, functional layout. The shipyard calls it a one-of-a-kind vessel that represents its forward-thinking vision.

A new approach to space sets the AB 110 apart. Two carbon-fiber staircases lead to an extended flybridge, increasing onboard livability while offering panoramic views. Lounge areas both forward and aft enhance relaxation, with the aft space transforming into a beach area for direct water access.

Performance matches design. Three MAN V12-2000 engines, each generating 2,000 horsepower, power the yacht. These connect to dual MJP 500 DRB steerable waterjets and a single booster. The lightweight composite hull and superstructure contribute to a 100-ton displacement at full load. As a result, the AB 110 reaches over 50 knots with ease and maintains a steady 38 knots at 80% engine load. At cruising speed, it achieves a 460-nautical-mile range.

Beyond speed, maneuverability and shallow-water capability set this yacht apart. With MJP steerable waterjets and a 1.3-meter draft, the AB 110 reaches destinations inaccessible to most 34-meter vessels.

AB Yachts has relied exclusively on MJP waterjets for over 30 years, thanks to the expertise of renowned naval architect Marco Arnaboldi. As the pioneer of the performance yacht category, AB Yachts has remained a market leader ever since.

For the AB 110, the shipyard selected two MJP 500 DRB waterjets with a single booster. Built for demanding conditions, the 500 DRB withstands debris, sand, and submerged obstacles. The body and pump unit use duplex stainless steel, while the intake is available in steel, metal, or composite. An inboard hydraulic design and advanced pump technology provide superior thrust and precise reversing speeds. The DRB system generates 1,200 kg of thrust, while the booster adds 600 kg, delivering high performance in all conditions
